New Henderson State Bank EMV Chip Cards

What is an EMV Chip Card?

EMV stands for Euro Pay, MasterCard® and VISA®. They are also referred to as “chip cards” or “smart cards”. A small metallic square that contains a computer chip is embedded in the card. This technology has been in use in Europe, Asia and Canada and has proven to be a major deterrent to fraud.

When will I receive a chip-enabled debit card from Henderson State Bank?

Henderson State Bank is now issuing EMV cards for new card orders. We are working on replacing our customers’ existing customer cards as soon as they can be delivered in the very near future.

Will My PIN# change with the new chip card?

No, your PIN# will remain the same.

How are chip cards different from existing magnetic strip card technology?

The EMV “chip” is a microprocessor built into the card. The chip generates a unique number for each transaction, making it more difficult to create and use a cloned card or commit other card related fraud.

Will chip card work at the same places as my old card was?

Yes, your new EMV chip card will be honored at any merchant that accepts VISA cards.

What will be different about using the new EMV chip card?

You will insert the chip end of your card into the card terminal with the chip facing up and leave it there. Then follow the prompts on the screen to complete the transaction. The terminal will tell you when to remove your chip card after completing your transaction.

Can I still swipe my card to pay?

Yes. Until all of the merchants update their terminals you can still swipe your new EMV chip card at those older terminals and complete your transaction.

Does my chip card work at the ATM?

Yes. You can still use your card to get cash and check your balance.

Will EMV chip cards eliminate fraud?

No, while chip card technology will help reduce fraud, you still need to do your part. Keep your card number and PIN information secure. Guard your private information at all times.
